Four Seasons Resort Lanai At Manele Bay - Hotels On Lanai Lanai City, Hawaii

The Four Seasons Resort Lanai at Manele Bay is one of just two main hotels on Lana'i island, the other being Four Seasons Resort Lana'i, The Lodge at Koele. Yes, there is a third hotel which is the Hotel Lana'i but that's a much smaller place and doesn't really compete with these other two.

You can get to the hotel via a shuttle from the airport or from Manele Small Boat Harbor if you took the ferry from Maui to get to Lana'i. There is also a shuttle you can take to go back and forth between the The Four Seasons Resort Lanai at Manele Bay and the Four Seasons Resort Lana'i, The Lodge at Koele. If you have a rental car then valet parking is the best option, and while it will be included in the daily resort fee you'll still need to tip the valet drivers each time you want to retrieve your car. A small price to pay when you see how far up a hill the self parking is. Another nice touch is the valet crew will give you a water bottle for each person in your party each time you get your car so a $5 tip is well worth it just for the water.

From the minute you arrive at the hotel you'll be greeted by a super friendly staff who is ready to help with your luggage, to get you checked in, and to answer any questions you have. The valet and front desk, and everyone really, do a great job of welcoming you.

The Rooms

My first impression of our room was very good. It felt very large, certainly larger than your standard hotel room. It had plenty of light coming in through the huge sliding doors (essentially, an entire wall of the room is glass panels). The view was excellent; green grass and blue ocean.

The room had a work desk with a couple of chairs, a large flat screen TV, an extra chair, some benches, a decent sized closet with free safe, and two beds. The main complaint is that the beds are full size beds, rather than queen sized beds that you would expect. Two kids can fit in one bed easily, but two adults (and we're by no means large) make for a an annoying night squeezed together. The beds also each had a stuffed seal animal on them, one for each of our kids which is a nice touch (they knew we had kids before check in). The room also has a mini refrigerator in it and they included free bottles of water for us along with creamer to use with the free coffee (and coffee maker).

There is a nightly turn-down service where they'll turn your bed down, do a quick clean up if needed, and will drop off some water bottles for you. In most hotels they'll charge you (a lot!) for the water bottles but they're free here. This is a truly nice touch and it's this level of attention to detail that makes the Four Seasons Resort Lanai at Manele Bay extra special.

We then checked out the bathroom and found that they spelled our kids names out in sponge letters and gave them some kid friendly bath bubbles. Another nice touch.

Pool

There is only one pool here and it has two hot tubs in it. The pool is nice but fairly small, especially if there is a crowd here. The hot tubs are also fairly small. There is a drink service at the pool as well.

A hotel like this is all about going above and beyond to make sure you are pampered. One example of this is Doctor Shades who is a guy in a white lab coat that actually reads "Dr Shades" who does nothing more than walk around and clean your sunglasses. Nice touch, super nice guy.

Beach

The hotel is located right next to Hulopo'e Bay Beach Park, but there is a path so you can walk right to the beach. Once there you will find towels and sand toys for your kids as well as some flotation devices you can borrow. Don't think that you'll need to carry your own towels 20 feet across the sand. No sir. They have people to do that for you and they'll also setup umbrellas and lounge chairs (with clean towels for each chair no less).

It's a class act all the way and they might even offer up fresh fruit from time to time.

Kids Club

The complimentary Kids For All Seasons program at Four Seasons Resort Lanai at Manele Bay is called the Pilialoha Keiki Camp. It's only for kids aged 5 to 12 and if your kid is 5 you'll need proof of age (passport, birth certificate, etc). It's open daily from 9am to 5pm and is completely free. Seriously, free.

You don't need any reservations, just drop your kids off and the super nice ladies will watch and play with your kids for as long as you want. They'll do all sorts of craft projects, catch (and release) lizards, and do various other pre-planned activities. Your kids can even eat lunch there with your permission. They'll order off the room service menu and you'll pay for it but otherwise the place is truly free.

If you have kids you will use this and your kids will love it. Drop them off and hit the beach, the pool, or head into town for a nice lunch or some shopping. I'd come back here just for this feature alone and my kids are already wanting to go back just for this (and they loved the ladies that ran it).

Teen Room

There is a Teen Room off the lobby area which is a room with couches and a TV as well as computers so teens can play games or do whatever it is teens do in an unsupervised room with couches, a TV, and computers. Your teens will either be too cool for this room or love the freedom.

Exercise & Golf

If you want to exercise on your vacation then you'll love the huge exercise room they have here, even stocked with water and Gatorade. Golfers who want to get out will love hitting the links at The Challenge at Manele Golf Course.

Restaurants

There are several restaurant options on property which is a good thing because if you don't eat on property you have to drive close to 10 miles back to town. For more on that see: Kailani, One Forty American Steak, Hawaiian Seafood, Nobu Lana'i, and The Sports Bar.
