The Upper Waiohuli Trail is a 4 mile long (each way), out and back style hiking trail in the upcountry town of Kula on the island of Maui. Considering you'll be around 6,000 feet above sea level you can expect cool to cold temperatures up here so prepare accordingly. Many experienced hikers consider this to be a moderately difficult hike.
This trail is often used by experience mountain bikers but you can hike it as well. It's also recommended that you go slow at these higher elevations to avoid headaches and be sure to bring and drink plenty of water. On that note, be sure to read up on Hiking Safety & Essentials before you head out.
The Upper Waiohuli Trail starts in same area as Lower Waiohuli Trail but on the southeast Waipoli Road and heads in a (roughly) east direction before heading northeast. Shortly into the trail and the Mamane Trail will intersect with it.
At the end of the Upper Waiohuli Trail it will turn into the Upper Waiakoa Trail which will go further north and connect into the Waiakoa Loop Trail. If you continued on to the Waiakoa Loop Trail (making either a left or a right at the intersection) you will loop back to Waipoli Road where you can take a left and work your way back down to the trailhead of the Upper Waiohuli Trail where you started. Otherwise, you can turn back at any point.
