Lower Waiohuli Trail is a short, out and back style trail located in Maui's upcountry. The trail length is only 1.4 miles one way which means a total hike of 2.8 miles out and back or longer if you take one of the trails it connects to at its end point.

The trailhead starts at 6,400 feet in elevation in the Kula Forest Reserve and has overall elevation gains of 800 feet. You'll pass through pines, ash, redwood, and cedar trees along its route.

At these higher elevations you can expect far cooler temperatures than down at sea level.

At the end of the trail you'll intersect with the Boundary Trail at around 5,600 feet in elevation. Views to the west will be overlooking the Kihei and Wailea of south Maui. On your east will be Haleakala National Park.

As with all hikes anywhere, be sure to read up on Hiking Safety & Essentials before heading out.

Although the trail isn't overly difficult, you are gaining some decent elevation along the way so that combined with the higher altitudes that can leave you out of breath make this a moderately difficult hike.
