Nothing is more relaxing than snorkeling in calm water. It's transcendent and takes you to another world. I love snorkeling in the lagoons at the Ko Olina Resort because the water is relatively safe, though note that there are no lifeguards here.

You're in a protected lagoon that has good circulation to keep the water fresh. If you're staying at Aulani A Disney Resort And Spa, the Four Seasons Resort Oahu at Ko Olina, or the Marriott's Ko Olina Beach Club, then snorkeling at the the lagoons is literally a few feet away.

There is a large variety of tropical fish include Angelfish, Butterflyfish, and the state fish - the Humuhumu-nukunuku-apua'a - Reef Triggerfish. That's a beautiful fish and you'll see lots of them in the lagoons. We haven't seen many eels lately, but if you visit Hanauma Bay Nature Preserve and Beach Park or snorkel outside the lagoons (which is for experienced snorkelers when the ocean is calm only), you may find some hidden in the reefs.

Even Honu - The Hawaiian Green Sea Turtle frequent this area and make appearances in the lagoons. Just remember, sea turtles are now a protected species in Hawaii. You are not allowed to get within a few feet of them, but they are amazing to watch and can occasionally be found in the lagoons.

So if you're staying in the Ko Olina Resort or visiting the resort then give snorkeling a try, assuming the ocean is relatively calm. The main beaches here are Ko Olina Lagoon 1 (Kahola Lagoon), Ko Olina Lagoon 2 (Honu Lagoon), Ko Olina Lagoon 3 (Nai'a Lagoon), and Ko Olina Lagoon 4 (Ulua Lagoon).
