Poipu Beach Park is located in the Koloa area in south Kaua'i. It's made up of two beaches separated by a tombolo (a sand bar connecting an island to the mainland or to another island), Poipu Beach is on the east side and Waiohai Beach Park is on the west side where Marriott's Waiohai Beach Club is located.

Poipu Beach is hugely popular and will be absolutely packed on weekends, and still really busy on weekdays. The Travel Channel voted it as one of America's and the World's best beaches. Hmm. Well, that's all non-sense of course but they are correct as it is an excellent beach if crowds don't bother you.

The beach here is well protected from the open ocean so it's often a great place for swimming. The east side is even more protected and great for smaller kids. The less protected west side (still on the poipu beach side of the tombolo) is good for snorkeling if the ocean is calm.

Toss in bathrooms, picnic areas, showers, and a lifeguard and you have an all around great beach, and one that is perfect for families. If you aren't staying nearby, note that the parking can be really bad here so arrive early or try a weekday instead of a weekend. There are a lot of spots, but it does get crowded and they fill fast.
