Ailana Shave Ice - Restaurants On Oahu Honolulu, Hawaii

That is a bold statement in these parts "Better than Matsumoto Shave Ice". Could it be? All those tourist traveling to Haleiwa to wait 20+ minutes for a shave ice? Could they be wrong? Matsumoto Shave Ice is legendary in Hawaii. It's been around for a long time, been written up in all the travel guides, and is thought to be holy grail of shave ice. But it's not necessary to make the pilgrimage to Haleiwa when there is a lesser known, but unbelievably good shave ice place right next to the Ala Moana Shopping Center. And to me - it's better than Matsumoto.

Ailana Shave Ice is owned by a Japanese woman who prepares her own syrups, azuki beans, and mochi balls. Her attention to detail can create a bit of a wait, but it's worth it. I ordered the Uji Kintoki which has green tea, azuki beans, mochi, and ice cream. But I had them add haupia syrup and condensed milk as well. It was heavenly. It was THE BEST SHAVE ICE I've ever had. The portions were large, and the price was fair at $5.25.

Do not miss this if you are near the Ala Moana Shopping Center. It's located directly across from the main bus stop on Kona Street at the Ala Moana Shopping Center.
