Black Rock Beach, also known as Pu'u Keka'a, is located at the far north end of Ka'anapali Beach in the Lahaina area (specifically the Ka'anapali area) of west Maui.
Black Rock itself is a volcanic formation that the sea has eroded. It was also considered a holy place by early Hawaiians who thought that the spirits of the dead left the earth here for the spirit world.
It's an excellent spot to do some snorkeling, when the ocean is calm, and this end of Ka'anapali Beach can be a great place for kids to play since there is some protection of the open ocean here. Up above you'll see the Sheraton Maui Resort & Spa.
At night, the Black Rock Cliff Dive Ceremony takes place here. If you're staying in this resort area you can walk here from pretty much any hotel, otherwise you'll need to drive here so be sure to read our Ka'anapali Beach Parking Guide first.
