Matt Anderson's Take
The Pioneer Inn hotel in Lahaina Maui is actually a Best Western property and is located in Lahaina town, just steps away from all of the action on Front Street. That means you'll have plenty of shopping and food choices and are in a great overall location.

The downside is that you are not on a beach here. You could always walk to the nearest beach down the street which is Kamehameha Iki Park, but that one isn't very good.

The hotel was built in 1901 but has been remodeled to "meet Best Western standards" for whatever that's worth. We did learn from our time at Lanai Culture & Heritage Center, that this building was actually originally built on Lana'i Island and moved to its current location on Maui.

The onsite Pioneer Inn Grill & Bar is a dining option that offers lovely ocean views and you are right next to the harbor where many tour boats and other activities launch from.

This is a smaller hotel with only thirty four non-smoking rooms, each with a lanai, but all are located on the second floor with access via a stairway.

Stayed here for two nights a while back and enjoyed it. It's nothing fancy but the location is hard to beat since you're right in town and get walk to everything.

I have only experienced their breakfast here, but it has always been great. There are your basic breakfast items, and some more unique and local flavors. Service has always been friendly. Located right across from the harbor. We've made sure to visit Pioneer Inn on our last three trips to Maui!

We spent the first two nights of our trip here because we wanted to be close to some of the area attractions. On previous trips, we never spent much time in Lahaina town so we figured this would give us more time to look around and avoid the drive time had we stayed further away.

It was a great choice because you can't beat the location. It's really nice being able to walk from your hotel to all of the shops, restaurants, and various sites. Everything is just a walk away.

The staff was very good to us and friendly and our room was very clean. The bed was big and comfortable even if the room itself is pretty basic. This isn't a high-end luxury resort, it's really just basic lodging but it's done well.

Most people agree that this is a pretty good lodging option without the frills.

It's a little on the rustic side but overall nice for what is really a budget hotel.
