Kahanamoku Beach is located at the far northwest end of the Waikiki stretch of beaches and right next to the Hilton Hawaiian Village Waikiki Beach Resort and Duke Kahanamoku Lagoon. The beach is named after Duke Kahanamoku - The Original Beach Boy, who is the same person in the iconic Waikiki Duke Kahanamoku Statue.

It's a popular spot, especially by guests of the nearby Hilton, but you'll find plenty of parking between the lagoon and boat harbor. The spots along the nearby lagoon and the lot at the far south end will provide free parking while the lots along the harbor will cost you a few dollars so watch where you park.

The beach itself is fairly large and well protected from the ocean by a manmade breakwater so the water here is usually quite calm. Some areas west of the center have a fairly rocky bottom so the east side is better for swimming. Overall, it tends to not be quite as crowded here compared to some of the other Waikiki beaches and the beach is a bit wider so it's easier to find room to spread out.

There is a beach walk that connects you to the hotels and some of the other Waikiki beaches so you also have some food and drink options as well as equipment rentals, surf lessons, and other water activities.

We also hear that this beach was voted as the #2 best beach in America for 2013 by some beach nurse fellow but pay no attention to that as it's complete non-sense due to the way they pick beaches. It's a very good beach for sure, and has a lot going for it, but it's not perfect and there are many better beaches on Oahu alone (as well as Hawaii overall).
