Waimea Beach, also known as Waimea State Recreation Pier, on the island of Kaua'i is not to be confused with the incredibly popular Waimea Bay Beach Park on the island of O'ahu.

This beach is located right at the Waimea State Recreation Pier, just west of Lucy Wright Beach Park, and it's kind of a black sand beach. It's nothing like Maui's beautiful Wai'anapanapa Black Sand Beach but more of a brownish-black color that really feels more like dirty sand.

The whole beach area, as well as the water, isn't very appealing or impressive when compared to many of Kauai's amazing beaches. It is pretty large and likely to be nearly empty but it's not a place you'd come and swim due to the murky water, partly due to the Waimea River that empties into the ocean here.

The waves are often gentle, though there is a lot of sand churning up in the waters near the shoreline. The beach is filled with all sorts of debris (branches and such) and there aren't any facilities here. Locals tend to hang out here so it's probably a good place just to hang out for bit or maybe to watch a sunset.

Assuming it's relatively clear out, you should be able to see the forbidden island of Ni'ihau off to your right (west).
