Kalama Beach Park - Beaches On Maui Kihei, Hawaii

Kalama Beach Park is located in Kihei in south Maui but be sure not to confuse it with Kalama Beach Park in Kailua on the island of O'ahu. Kalama Park is a huge park with tons of facilities and a a very popular place with locals.

On the other hand, the beach that is here is very tiny and really not all that great. It's not a horrible beach but it's just so tiny and really feels like an afterthought when they designed this park. You'll likely come to the park for all that it offers and maybe use the beach if you just want to hang out with a nice ocean view or to quickly cool off.

There are some popular beginner surfing options right off shore from the beach area and towards the south end of the park as well. Most of the park that fronts the ocean has a long man made sea wall which is why the beach here is so small.

In addition to tons of space and large grassy areas to play in, Kalama offer a skate park, hockey rink (inline skates), a nice playground for smaller kids, a few baseball fields, tennis courts, basketball courts, a volleyball area, and covered pavilions.

It even has a nice paved beach walk area if you are in the mood to take a stroll. On top of all that, there is a ton of parking here. It's an all around excellent park with a pretty average (at best) beach.
