Matt Anderson's Take
The Kauai Marriott Resort is located in the Lihue area on the island of Kaua'i, right next to and a very short drive from Lihue Airport (LIH). It's an interesting resort in that it seems to be trying to be all things to all people. For example, it's trying to be both a family friendly resort as well as a convention center for business travelers. It has plenty of amenities and is quite large overall and thus what I would call a mega-resort.

Rooms

The rooms here are nice, clean, and fairly spacious with a nice lanai area if you just want to sit out and enjoy a view or get some fresh air. Our room had two queen beds and a decent sized desk for working at. The bathroom was nicely separated from the main room and quite large.

The closet is small, and includes a safe, but should be enough room even for a family since you'll also have plenty of drawer space. It would be nice if they put ceiling fans in the rooms.

There is an annoying daily resort fee of $30 (see Hotel & Resort Fees & Taxes) which lets you self park for free (valet is $10 more per day plus tip, seeTipping), gets you free wifi, and two free mai-tais (or pastries) as a one time deal.

Pool

The pool here is quite large and has a couple of hot tubs included along with a very small slide for small kids to use. Although plenty large and very nicely maintained, it's also quite boring. Pool areas should be the focal point of a mega resort and boring pools like this just feel so dated to me.

Of course, if the pool was a really neat mini-waterpark maybe that wouldn't appeal to the business travelers who would view it too much as a family resort and not a business facility.

Beach

The Kauai Marriott Resort is right on Kalapaki Beach which is nice enough and gives plenty of sandy beach to play on but the beach itself isn't really a destination. It will certainly get the job done and is better than no beach but if you weren't staying at this hotel then you wouldn't make a trip to this beach.

Dining

There are some good onsite dining options here which include Kukui's Poolside Restaurant & Bar, Kalapaki Beach Hut, Toro Tei Sushi Bar, Aupaka Terrace, Duke's Kauai, and Cafe Portofino Italian Restaurant.

During our stay here, there was a major business convention going on and the entire resort was plastered with signs, decals, booths, vinyl wraps, and other items branded to the company that was holding a large convention here. It felt extremely tacky and if I had planned a vacation around this resort I'd probably be less than thrilled by it all. It was by no means a deal breaker but seeing signs and vinyl wraps everywhere (pool area included) was just too much.

From a business traveler perspective I would say that this hotel does a great job at catering to my needs, offers up decent dining options so I don't have to drive for food, and generally has a relaxing atmosphere. If I want to visit the pool area I will be dealing with kids and families but overall it's a solid choice for the business traveler.

Overall, I'd give it a 4 star rating for anyone. If you are traveling with a family and on vacation it wouldn't be my first choice but it would certainly be a good and clean place to have a good time and the rates can be pretty good.

We love the Marriott and have stayed here twice now. The pool is huge and the beach is gorgeous with gentle waves. The rooms are super clean, I mean spotless, which I love. It's a large resort with restaurants you can walk to as well.

I had never been on such a long escalator till I descended into "heaven on earth" at the Kauai Marriott Resort. I have never been anywhere I felt more at home so fast. The place is just breathtaking! There is so much to see & do & eat in Kauai that you have to keep coming back. I love Kauai the best of all the islands I have visited. Staying at the Kauai Marriott Resort was a lifetime highlight!

This is a wonderfully overdone, splashy resort for the nouveau (and wanna be) rich. We enjoyed its silly pools and bars, but didn't spend much time here. We came for Kauai, not the hotel. This hotel is clean and comfortable and the people are nice.

It is probably overpriced, but it does have a stunning view of a mountain over the ocean and its beach has a beautiful little river flowing right next to it into the bay. Watch out for unplanned and unnecessary charges they will hit you with, but this is a nice place.

I absolutely love this hotel. It is the only place I've stayed on Kauai (3 times) so I don't have anything to compare it to, but I don't need to stay anywhere else. The beach and pool are amazing here. The restaurants are great, and there are also other options nearby. The grounds are beautiful and there is so much to see. There's also grills on the property if you want to save some money and cook. Like the rest of the island, there is no nightlife, but you should do enough during the day that you're too tired to be up late. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone visiting.
