The Kauai Marriott Resort is located in the Lihue area on the island of Kaua'i, right next to and a very short drive from Lihue Airport (LIH). It's an interesting resort in that it seems to be trying to be all things to all people. For example, it's trying to be both a family friendly resort as well as a convention center for business travelers. It has plenty of amenities and is quite large overall and thus what I would call a mega-resort.
Rooms
The rooms here are nice, clean, and fairly spacious with a nice lanai area if you just want to sit out and enjoy a view or get some fresh air. Our room had two queen beds and a decent sized desk for working at. The bathroom was nicely separated from the main room and quite large.
The closet is small, and includes a safe, but should be enough room even for a family since you'll also have plenty of drawer space. It would be nice if they put ceiling fans in the rooms.
There is an annoying daily resort fee of $30 (see Hotel & Resort Fees & Taxes) which lets you self park for free (valet is $10 more per day plus tip, seeTipping), gets you free wifi, and two free mai-tais (or pastries) as a one time deal.
Pool
The pool here is quite large and has a couple of hot tubs included along with a very small slide for small kids to use. Although plenty large and very nicely maintained, it's also quite boring. Pool areas should be the focal point of a mega resort and boring pools like this just feel so dated to me.
Of course, if the pool was a really neat mini-waterpark maybe that wouldn't appeal to the business travelers who would view it too much as a family resort and not a business facility.
Beach
The Kauai Marriott Resort is right on Kalapaki Beach which is nice enough and gives plenty of sandy beach to play on but the beach itself isn't really a destination. It will certainly get the job done and is better than no beach but if you weren't staying at this hotel then you wouldn't make a trip to this beach.
Dining
There are some good onsite dining options here which include Kukui's Poolside Restaurant & Bar, Kalapaki Beach Hut, Toro Tei Sushi Bar, Aupaka Terrace, Duke's Kauai, and Cafe Portofino Italian Restaurant.
