Matt Anderson's Take
The Nuuanu Pali Lookout (or Nuuanu Pali State Wayside as it's also known) offers some amazing panoramic views of the Ko'olau Cliffs and the windward coast of O'ahu. Just driving up the Pali Highway is a bit of a treat with some awesome views.

The actual lookout is over a thousand feet up and gives great views of Kaneohe, Kailua, and Chinaman's Hat (see Chinaman's Hat Trail (Mokolii Island) and Chinaman's Hat - The Giant Lizard).

It's often windy up here. We mean really windy up here. Leave your hat in the car if you ever want to see it again. Assuming the winds are howling here, it should prove to be an interesting experience and one kids will probably get a kick out of.

Curious to know more about this special place? The word "Pali" means "cliff" in Hawaiian and this is the site of the Battle of Nu'uanu which took place back in 1795. King Kamehameha won the battle and became the ruler of O'ahu, with hundreds of soldiers being killed in the process (many forced off the cliffs).

Note that there is a fee of $3 per car for non-Hawaii residents.

It's one of those must visit places on Oahu. The views are amazing and if it's windy out then it will be ridiculously windy here which is sort of fun as well.

Went to the top but there was fog and couldn't look over the top down the Napali Coast but the drive was magnificent and we will do it again when we return!

Very small amount of parking, this is basically an in and out type of lookout.

Somehow we always manage to find ourselves visiting this lookout. It has simply the best view of the island, and the winds that come through here are something else. Don't bother with a hat, you won't keep it. If you get a really windy day, you can lean back into the wind and it will hold you up. We always have a lot of fun here.

Amazing drive up to the Pali lookout. Drive along the mountain side to see little villages below. Don't forget your camera to take some great pictures!! Plenty of places along the way to stop to look over te towns below. The views are breathtaking! Can't wait to go back one day.

There are places on each island that have something special that makes them unique. Pali Lookout is one of them. It's located at the top of the Pali Highway. There's a fee for parking, but Hawaii residents are free. I've never had a problem with finding a parking spot since this a place that is frequented by many visitors, but they only stay for no longer than 15 minutes or so. Love the views of Kaneohe and the surrounding mountains (Palis). This is one of those places I always show first-time visitors to Oahu.

Amazing views of the island. The only downside is the lack of parking.
