Full Description
Chang's Beach is a small beach located in the Makena area of south Maui. This cool little beach can be found just south of Po'olenalena Beach and right behind the Makena Surf - Destination Resorts Hawaii, our map / directions page marks the exact location.

Parking at Chang's Beach is pretty bad with only a few spots in a tiny lot. To find that lot, if you are heading south it will be the first right turn you can make right after you pass the Makena Surf - Destination Resorts Hawaii gated parking lot.

There can be some great snorkeling here as well when the ocean is calm but you won't find a lifeguard so enter the ocean at your own risk. The popular 5 Caves / 5 Graves snorkeling spots is located just south of this beach and many use this beach as a starting point to get to that popular spot (for advanced swimmers / snorkelers / divers only).

This is a pretty small beach and likely won't be heavily used and we really like it overall.

Cool little beach because it feels secluded and likely won't have many people actually here.

As are all south Maui beaches, Chang's is very beautiful...one of the very few beaches that have trees on the beach for shade...to set up for your day at the beach. Modest in size, it can get busy. PortaPotty in the parking lot but that's it. No water or showers. Back in the day, we used to camp there on the beach due to its tree line. Being a long time body boarder, not much here to ride.

This is not a good snorkeling location though any beach with some protruding rocks from the beach into the ocean, you'll find sea life. Thus, you'll find what you're looking for...sans turbulent waters.

The tourists love playing in the waves but if you're looking for wave shape for real rides, this isn't the beach.

But if you're looking for a wide open beach to frolic or more privacy, fewer peeps, walk around the rock point to the north of this beach. For the brave or in need to wear minimal clothing, at the very far end of this long sandy, semi-private beach, is "Secret Beach". More privacy, fewer clothes. There's a family-friendly section...
