Matt Anderson's Take
Pokai Bay Beach Park is a great beach along the Waianae coast of O'ahu. This is often a perfect beach for kids due to the protective breakwaters that keep waves to a minimum (or virtually nothing) in most areas of the bay.

The water is usually quite clear and blue, making this a really good beach and place to swim and play. There is also a lifeguard, bathroom, showers, and a long beach area with plenty of room to set up shop and even some shady areas up along the grass and tree line.

There is often plenty of parking during the week when this beach is usually not very crowded (though it will be more crowded during summer months). Of course, it can get busy on weekends when locals pack the place.

Pokai Bay is also a great place for some kayaking or stand up paddleboarding due it's protected waters (assuming you have those items already). There's even a playground for the kids.

The Ku'ilioloa Heiau at Pokai Bay is worth checking out while visiting.

Beside the heiau are rugged reef formations with interesting arches.

We loved Pokai Bay! What an amazing beach and the water was so gentle and perfect. One of my favorite beaches on the island now.

This is a great west side beach that few tourists seem to know about. The locals are probably happy about that because they basically get this gem all to themselves. If you're on the west side and staying in the Ko Olina Resort or otherwise exploring over here, be sure to check out Pokai Bay.

This is a really nice beach park. Great for families, since there is a manmade protective rock reef here to keep out the waves. Perfect beach for groups, since the access is easy with plentiful parking. Nice restrooms, grassy areas, and a sacred Heiau on the eastern most section.

If you have young Keiki, this is a great beach for them. If you want to surf - keep on driving on down the road toward Makaha. Good spot for paddle boarding, sailing, kayaking as well. Recommended.

Great beach and while it brings in people on the weekends, it never feels overcrowded. During the week it's usually dead.
