Kane'apua Rock is located at Kaunolu Village on the southern tip of Lana'i and is very close to Kahekili's Leap (Warriors Leap) and Halulu Heiau. This is a very sacred place, so please be respectful. The rock itself is just that, a rock, a very big rock and it offers some spectacular views. If the rock doesn't do it for you be sure to visit Kahekili's Leap (Warriors Leap) and Halulu Heiau as well since they're right here as well.
From Lanai City you will take Highway 440 west toward Kaumalapau Harbor. Once past the airport turnoff, turn left onto (unmarked trail) Kaupili Road. After about 2.5 miles (4 km) you'll see a yellow water pipe on the right, turn right here.
This road goes downhill and leads to Kaunolu and Halulu Heiau after about 3 miles (4.8 km). Your rental car company may not allow you to drive some (if any) of these trails so check with them first and park and hike in if needed.
