Full Description
The Royal Hawaiian, also known as the Pink Palace of the Pacific, is hard to miss when you are in the Waikiki area. Not because it's overly tall or large but simply because it's pink. Very pink. And it's an icon of Honolulu and Waikiki.

It's also old, very old, as it first opened in 1927! Not to worry, it's old in a good way and keeps up with the times quite nicely so you'll enjoy all of the modern amenities you'd expect of a luxury hotel.

The resort has 528 rooms and suites and is right on Royal-Moana Beach @ Waikiki which is an excellent area of Waikiki Beach. The property is very nice and has an overall luxury theme going on but doesn't feel snobby. On the flip side, it also doesn't feel like a family hotel. Families are certainly welcome here and you will see them, but this place has a higher end feel that's perfect for couples.

The main pool here is fairly small and boring but don't worry as there is a second pool area (shared with the Sheraton Waikiki) which includes a slide and hot tub which will be better for kids.

This is a Starwood Hotels & Resorts property so they'll be tacking on a daily resort fee of $36.65 (see Hotel & Resort Fees & Taxes). That fee will give you free valet parking (Tipping is extra), free internet, and a few other add-ons.

Overall, it's a very nice property and one worth checking out even if you aren't staying here. Take a stroll through this beautiful "palace" and enjoy the amazing views and fun ambiance it offers. You'll also want to stop by and possibly enjoy a Mai Tai at the world famous Mai Tai Bar.

Some fun facts: There have been several movies and TV series have been filmed here such as The Black Camel starring Charlie Chan, Big Jim McLain starring John Wayne, Pearl Harbor starring Ben Affleck, Punch Drunk Love starring Adam Sandler, Blood and Orchids TV miniseries, Pearl TV miniseries, and Mad Men to name a few.

I recall some years ago on a return to my home I grew up in, we had stayed at the Royal Hawaiian Hotel, beautiful pink. It always stood out. Rooms large and always clean and fresh each day. When we arrived, my mom, grandma, grandpa, and myself were greeted with an ensemble playing and singing, and gifted with a simple lei. The food and restaurants are awesome. The best two things are the huge aquarium, that you can even have brunch or dine next to, and the beach which comes up and kisses the hotel with yellow white sand.

End of spring and early fall is the best times to go. They are very welcoming, warm, friendly at the desk as well. Like being a guest in someone's home. Customer service outstanding, did not have to wait or ask for help with our luggage.

This hotel is definitely one of the pricier ones in Waikiki, but it's truly amazing! It's older, yet still up to date with the old Hawaiian feel. The place is huge... you could easily get lost. And the restaurants are amazing. Again, they are all a little on the pricey side, but if you want to splurge on your vacation, this is the place to do it!

I have stayed at the Royal Hawaiian a couple of times and it is my favorite hotel. They have only been one night stays as I live in Honolulu and have a stay-cay. Always stayed in the Historic building which features the old world charm, but modernized. Grounds are so peaceful, where you can just sit on a chair and soak it all up!

If staying at one of the world's most celebrated hotels is on your bucket list, then the Royal Hawaiian is for you. There are two main options for people staying here, either in the historic wing of the hotel or in the tower. If you stay in the tower, all rooms are ocean view and include a twice daily room service. The amenities are first class in the tower and there is access to a lounge which is not available to people not staying in the tower.

The historic wing of the hotel is quieter and the rooms are quite nice. One of the more enjoyable features of the hotel are the rocking chairs overlooking the courtyard on the portico of the hotel. This is a great place to enjoy morning coffee with a newspaper. The seaside Mai Tai bar and Azure restaurant also offer exceptional food and drink. Exclusive shops such as Newt at the Royal and Tori Richard offer a nice selection of aloha shirts. Even if you are not staying at The Royal Hawaiian, it is worth seeing for its historic significance.

World War II trivia: The Royal Hawaiian was home to officers of the Pacific Submarine Force before they got underway on their missions in the Pacific.

Our rooms were very nice and clean and a great size. Beach is right at your doorstep not far and the pools are great for the kids. This is a brilliant hotel make sure you check it out. The pink palace well worth it.

This is a fabulous hotel that has the Aloha spirit down to its core, it is the epitome of a Hawaiian hotel and vacation spot. From the time you pull up and receive a warm greeting and a lie from the staff to the old tradition of a hotel of yesteryear. My wife and I stayed here last year and are looking forward to our next visit. The rooms are clean and well maintained and the property has looked after with your enjoyment in mind. Unfortunately, we only were here for one night so we were not able to dig into all the amenities or features, but when we return to the Royal Hawaiian we will defiantly stay longer. I would recommend it to anyone that wants to enjoy their time on Oahu in style.
