The Polipoli Trail is a short, 0.6 mile (one way, 1.2 mile round trip) out and back style hiking trail found in the Polipoli Springs State Recreation Area in Maui's upcountry.

While this is a very short trail, the Polipoli Trail connects with the Redwood Trail, Haleakala Ridge, and Plum Trail to form a 5.3 mile long loop trail.

As for difficulty, this section of trail is fairly easy and has an overall elevation gain of around 200 feet. You'll be starting out at 6,200 feet above sea level so remember that it's often cooler at these higher elevations. You'll pass through dense forests of cedar, cypress, and pine trees.

Dogs are allowed but must be leashed at all times. Bikes are not allowed on the trail. It's also suggested that you wear bright clothing as you may encounter hunters in this areas. On that note of safety, be sure to read up on Hiking Safety & Essentials.

The trailhead starts at Polipoli Springs State Recreation Area, see our directions page to get here. Note that this requires a drive up Waipoli Road which will turn to a dirt road and thus should only be attempted with a 4x4 vehicle.
