The Kulana'ahane Trail, which is sometimes also called the Moanalua Valley Trail, is a 2.75 mile long (each way), out and back style hiking trail in the Honolulu area of O'ahu.

To get here, you'll first need to head to the point we've marked on our map / directions page at the end of Ala Aolani Street. You'll find a parking lot right next to Moanalua Valley Neighborhood Park here as well. Park, then just head up the dirt road and through the gate.

Before the Kulana'ahane Trail begins, you'll first need to hike up the Kamananui Valley Road. After around 2 miles into that hike you will find a sign for the trailhead of the Kulana'ahane Trail on your left.

This trail will cross a stream 29 times before you reach the last 1/4 mile of the trail. With that in mind, keep an eye on the weather so you don't get caught in a Flash Flood. While we're in safety mode, be sure to read Hiking Safety & Essentials before heading out.

Once you make the last stream crossing, this is a good point to turn around and head back if you're a novice hiker. The trail won't be maintained after that point (which is marked by a sign) and becomes steep, slippery, and narrow.

With elevation gains of around 1,400 feet, and the fact that you have to walk a couple of miles on the Kamananui Valley Road trail just to get here, mean this trail is often considered to be somewhere between moderate and difficult (depending on your skill level and how far you go).

Campers must find legal parking in the adjacent neighborhood. Please park responsibly and do not leave valuables in your vehicle. See below "Resources" section for camping permit application link.
