The Kamananui Valley Road trail is a 4 mile long (one way), out and back style dirt road / hiking trail in the Honolulu area of O'ahu. The road gains around 600 feet in overall elevation and is said to be a relatively easy hike for most.

To get here, you'll first need to head to the point we've marked on our map / directions page at the end of Ala Aolani Street. You'll find a parking lot right next to Moanalua Valley Neighborhood Park here as well. Park, then just head up the dirt road and through the gate. As with any hike, be sure to read Hiking Safety & Essentials before heading out. Avoid hiking this trail in the rain or when rain is expected because of the risk of a Flash Flood.

After around two miles into the hike, you will come across a sign for the Kulana'ahane Trail / Moanalua Valley Trail which will head to your left. Stay to the right to remain on the Kamananui Valley Road trail.

There's some interesting history in this area. In 1884, Bernice Pauahi Bishop (which you may know of from The Bernice Pauahi Bishop Museum) willed this area to Samuel M. Damon (her husband). Samuel's son, Douglas, built a luxurious house in the valley which was called Kamananui (which means great spiritual power).

After crossing the last bridge on this trail, look for a sacred boulder which is covered in ancient petroglyphs. The boulder is known as Pohakukaluahine which means "rock of the old woman". As always, look but don't touch.
