3 Great Places For Shave Ice On Oahu
|
Shave ice (not shaved ice) is serious business here in Hawaii. Here are 3 of our favorites.
Lemona is the new kid on the block. The store may be tucked away on a Lewers Street, but it's worth discovering. Their syrups are wonderfully original with locally sourced fruit such as mango. More at: Lemona Shave Ice
The ice at Snow Factory is so light and fluffy, it's as if you stuck your tongue out in a alpine mountain and let the snow gently fall into your mouth. No kidding, not sure how they do it, but they have mastered the art of fluffy shaved ice. They have wide variety of flavors to choose, but the green tea with azuki beans is simply amazing. Matsumoto's Shave Ice is legendary for a good reason. They have mastered the art of creating wonderfully tasty syrups. Matsumoto's has been the mecca for shave ice lovers since 1951. The Haleiwa store has been modernized from recent renovations, but none of the charm has been lost. The ice is shaved in front of you and the presentation is fun to watch. There's usually a long line to get served, and on hot days it can be a downright discouraging sight. But if you decide to wait in line, you won't be disappointed. More at: Matsumoto Shave Ice
