The Kawai Nui Marsh Trail is a paved nature walk style hiking trail located in Kailua. This 1.3 mile (each way), out and back style trail is paved and has no elevation gains, making it easy for just about anyone.

Even kids are certain to enjoy taking a stroll along the path and may see a variety of animals along the way. Birdwatchers should be on the lookout for the endangered Hawaiian stilt, coot, or and even ducks.

The Kawai Nui Marsh is actually part of a flood control system. The word Kawai means "the water" and Nui means "great or big" which references the over 800 acres in the marsh.

To start, head to and park at Kawai Nui Neighborhood Park. Follow the sidewalk from the parking lot and it will lead to the trail that follows along the marsh.

Since there is no shade along this trail, it's best done in the morning or later in the day when the sun isn't blasting down on you. If you go in the sun then be sure to apply plenty of sunscreen to Protect Yourself From Sunburn & Skin Cancer. Even though this is an easier "hike" you'll still want to read up on Hiking Safety & Essentials.
