The Daughters of Hawaii was founded back in 1903 by a group of seven women who were descendants of missionary families. Their mission is to perpetuate the memory and spirit of old Hawaii and of historic facts and to preserve the nomenclature and correct pronunciation of the Hawaiian language.
Today, this 501(c)(3) non-profit organization has over 1,700 members worldwide and membership is open to any woman who is a descendant of a resident of Hawaii before 1880.
The Daughters of Hawaii handle the maintenance and administration of Queen Emma Summer Palace and Hulihe'e Palace. The Daughters rescued the Queen Emma Summer Palace back in 1913 before it was torn down to make way for a baseball field and Hulihe'e Palace in 1924 before it was torn down to make way for another hotel. They also own and maintain the Kamehameha III Birth Site on the Big Island.
The Daughters also provide classes in Hawaiian language, music, dances, and crafts.
