The town of Laie, is probably best known for the Polynesian Cultural Center, or the Brigham Young University-Hawaii campus. But, what is not commonly known is that Laie has one of the best body boarding beaches on O'ahu.

Laie Beach Park, commonly known as Pounders, is a white sandy beach with a backdrop of Ironwood trees for shade. Pounders is known to have waves consistently big enough for body surfing throughout the year. The beach is similar to Sandy Beach (Koko Head Park), because of the steep shallow sandbar which forces water up to create the shore break.

Laie Beach Park is more populated during the summer months, but rarely is considered overcrowded. It's a popular beach with locals. Once a year, there's a beach cleanup with a bodyboarding competition on the same day. A great day for the spectators as well as the environment.

There's a shower, picnic tables, and a grassy area but there are no public bathrooms. Parking is adequate for a beach park of this size.

Be aware there can be a strong current, so use caution when entering the water. Know your ability and if this isn't the beach for you then don't go in. There is a safer area if you follow the shoreline north. You'll see a smaller sandy beach area known as “Bath Tub Beach” where the current and waves are not as strong and sometimes okay for swimming.
