Full Description
Ala Moana Beach is a very large park area with a beach that is very well protected from ocean waves by the offshore reef. It's located directly across the street from Ala Moana Center in Honolulu on the island of O'ahu. It's also right next to the lovely Magic Island (Aina Moana).

Ala Moana Beach is a great alternative to the insanity going in Waikiki (see Waikiki Guide) though it can and will get very crowded here on weekends as the locals flood in. There is plenty of parking all along the main road and in a lot at the east end, though on weekends plenty may not be the case.

There is a huge grassy area for a picnic or playing and the sandy area is quite long and wide as well. The sand is closer to powder than it is to regular beach sand but the big complaint we have is just how much rock, coral, and shell debris there is in the sand here. We don't understand why they don't run the beach cleaning machine over this beach every hundred years weather it needs it or not! The only other very minor complaint is that you get a minor amount of aircraft noise from planes taking off at nearby Daniel K. Inouye International Airport (HNL).

Because the nearshore waters are so protected, the water is very calm and perfect for swimmers and smaller kids. There is a concession stand on site as well as lifeguards, bathrooms, showers, benches and tables, a walking path, exercise equipment, and tennis courts. It's really a great beach all around and one you really should spend a day at.

This is a great beach with a lot of room to spread out and a nice park area right next to it.

Ala Moana Beach Park is a large beach with ample parking and easy access. Not the most beautiful on the island but convenient to the many hotels in the area. An easy walk from any Waikiki hotel, An excellent place for family and wedding photos on the beach. Sunsets here are spectacular as well.

For years I never walked to ala Moana beach park because of the homeless. Use to use the sidewalk but now they have cleaned it up it's amazing! Great for walking swimming and picnics. Water is beautiful too, have swum there a lot. Take a walk through there it's beautiful great photo moments.

I used to spend every weekend at Ala Moana Beach Park when I was in high school. I liked it because it had a lot of trees and shady areas to relax and hang out. When it got too hot, we would go jump in the water and play around. It was never too crowded with tourists like you'll find at Waikiki Beach. I loved to walk out on the jetty at Magic Island, and watch the surfers.

The water at Ala Moana Beach always felt safe because it was calm and shallow. It had a beautiful turquoise color, which I always loved. There were lots of local families with little kids enjoying the beach since the water was safe. It brings back fond memories - I love Ala Moana Beach Park.

Ala Moana beach is a very beautiful place to visit. People are able to fish, dive, swim and participate in so many more things at this beach. Although when I do swim, I always seem to step on rocks that are all over the ocean floor. The feeling is not very pleasant.

It is also hard to find parking when you arrive, it's usually crowded with families and friends. The bathrooms are not the cleanest but they are able to use. When I do go, I happen to see a lot of homeless people sleeping on the grass beneath the trees. Other than that, the beach is a nice place to hang out or have family gatherings. It's very spacious and enjoyable.

This was a really nice beach and you can walk right to Ala Moana Mall across the street to get lunch (they have lots of restaurants and a huge food court area) and then come right back to the beach. It's quite large so there is plenty of room and it never seemed too crowded when we went. Water was nice and clear.
