Wailua Falls is the most easily accessible large waterfall on Kauai. Most waterfalls on the Garden Isle are viewed by hiking or helicopter, and unfortunately, many are on private property and inaccessible.
Wailua Falls has a lookout with a clear view and a small area beside the road for parking. If you arrive early, there usually aren't too many cars. The height of the waterfall is up to debate from different sources. The state of Hawaii says that it's 80 ft, while other sources claim it to be at 173 feet using a plumb bob.
In either case, it's a beautiful side trip to visit while in the Lihue area. If they look familiar it might be because you saw them in the opening title sequence for the television show Fantasy Island. That's right, it's those waterfalls.
