Full Description
Hapuna Beach State Park is a true gem of a beach located in the Kamuela on Hawaii's Big Island. That's about 5-6 miles north of the major Waikoloa resorts (see Waikoloa Guide). It's quite long and very wide with tons of powder sand to play on. The waves are usually very gentle so it's great for kids as well as long as the ocean isn't angry.

The water is quite clear and perfectly blue when it is calm here so it's great for snorkeling as well. There are two lifeguard towers, picnic areas, a food shack (though we suggest you bring your own food), along with showers and bathrooms.

There is almost no shade here except for the picnic areas and by some of the trees away from the beach.

Non-residents should expect to pay $5.00 to park here. There is a short, and somewhat steep, walk from the parking area down to the beach. Overall, this is a must see beach if you are in the area.

This is a favorite beach for us. We were there in 2014 and we were amazed by the fine sand. It felt like we were sitting on talcum powder. This was my first time in the ocean and I fell in love! As I had a bad hip, I was very cautious so I made sure I stayed close to shore.

We went back in 2016 (2 years after my hip replacement) and this time we were armed with boogie boards! In a one week period we visited this beach twice and both times we spent hours in the water riding the waves...my absolute favorite thing to do.

This beach is huge so it never felt crowded even though there were a lot of people there both times. There is ample parking (you have to pay to park but it is not that much), a place to buy food, outdoor showers, change rooms, and plenty of washrooms. All in all, a great place to spend the day.

This is the prettiest and sandiest beach on the Big Island. If you like long walks on the beach or nice white sandy beaches, this beach is for you. There isn't a lot of shade. There is a hotel at the end of the beach and a lot of picnic areas uphill from the beach. There aren't a lot of rocky areas and the water is beautiful. There didn't seem to be a lot of surf. Great place for families with kids.

Hapuna is one of the beaches in the Waikoloa area by far. It's a perfect family beach and comes complete with plenty of facilities. If you're in the area or not, this is a must see beach and a great place to spend many hours.

Hapuna Beach is located on dry, lava rich side of the Big Island. This is a State Beach Park with all the amenities to make for a nice day with the family. Restrooms, showers, picnic tables, a large covered area for events.

There's a snack bar near the parking lot as well. It will cost you five dollars to park here, but there is plenty of parking and it's really a magnificent beach. The water is very clear, the sand is clean, white and vast. The beach is very long and wide. There are waves big enough for body surfing on some days, and treacherous during large swells. Lifeguards are on duty during the day. Enjoyed by tourists and locals alike. Definitely one of the finer beaches in the world.

Our favorite beach in the Kona area by far. We came here a few times and it was just perfect. Great sand, perfect water, exactly what a Hawaiian beach should be.
