Boat Landing Cantina is a stand alone building located in the open air interior of the ocean tower building in the massive Hilton Waikoloa Village resort. It's located right at the very last stop (ocean tower side) of the resort's monorail line (and boat transportation line) so easy to find and get to. It's all open air seating and most of it is fully shady so it was just fine even on a hot day.
The food here is Mexican, but more of an American style Mexican rather than a classic Mexican food. They have all of the usual burritos, tacos, nachos, and so on but it's all of a high quality. This isn't greasy Mexican food. We had a variety of dishes here but really enjoyed the steak tacos and burritos the most. Their fresh made guacamole is also quite tasty and worth getting if you're hungry as some of the dishes weren't very huge.
They have a normal kids menu as well and kids will enjoy the colored wrist band they get when ordering a kids meal. All of the Hilton restaurants have a different colored rubber wristband to collect and when you collect them all you get a free scoop of ice cream. The kids will love the idea and want to collect all of them. If you collect six you get a free scoop of ice cream, collect the seventh (requires a pricey Luau) and you get a free picture with a parrot. It's all a pretty sick joke designed to force parents to spend a zillion dollars to obtain a cheap "free gift".
The only oddity of this restaurant (and much of the Hilton Waikoloa Village resort overall) is that there is a lot of water features here and Boat Landing Cantina is right on the water. That's nice and all that there aren't any railings by the edge of the seating area so even though the water is probably only a foot deep, you'll want to watch smaller kids here and/or have a camera ready in case grandma takes a dive into the drink.
There is also a full bar here so there are plenty of tasty, touristy, and pricey drinks to enjoy. Service here was very good and speedy and we found it to be a great experience overall. Nothing here is cheap, but this is probably one of the least costly table service places on the property with an average adult plate costing around $15.00 or so. It's worth trying for sure!
