Monterey Bay Canners - Restaurants On Oahu Aiea, Hawaii

I don't know why but I had low expectations for Monterey Bay Canners. It's a seafood and American style food restaurant in Aiea, right in the same parking lot as Pearlridge Center and overlooks Sumida Farm. The building always just looks sort of old, boring, and not very inviting so I just never got excited enough to try it.

Well, I finally decided it was time to give it a go so we stopped in for an early lunch. It wasn't very crowded yet, mostly a leftover breakfast crowd of older folks.

The place is quite large inside and has a large bar area as well. We were seated quickly but it took a while before our waiter got around to greeting us and taking our drink order. As it turned out, the service was a bit on the slow side for the entire meal. Not a huge complaint, but it could certainly be improved when the waiter was only waiting on two tables the entire time. He was nice and friendly at least.

In addition to seafood they have quite a few other options like burgers, ribs, and sandwiches. I decided to try the French dip sandwich (about $15) and a Pepsi (slightly pricey at $3.25). Two sandwiches with fries and two sodas with tax and tip ran a slightly pricey $44.

The food arrived quickly and the French dip was surprisingly good. If I was rating just the sandwich on taste I would give it 4.5 stars. Unfortunately, the sandwich was pretty tiny and the fries that came with it were pretty boring and average at best.

Factor in the slow service and slightly pricey meal (for what you get) and it's an overall 3.5 star experience for me. I did like that it was spacious and clean inside and even though it didn't knock my socks off I'll certainly comeback.
