We ordered the island fish which was grilled and served on brown rice with cole slaw. The fish came in 2 pieces - the thinner piece was overcooked and dry. The other one was cooked fine. The brown rice was undercooked and crunchy. The cole slaw was over sauced with mayo so it was very rich. Some people like a lot of mayo dressing on their cole slaw. I don’t.

We also ordered the clam chowder which was fantastic. It was so good that we ordered a second one to share. It had fresh fish, clams, and potatoes - nicely seasoned and delicious. It wasn’t too rich - it was on the light side for clam chowder.

Finally, we ordered 2 fish tacos which were served on two separate plates. The corn tortillas were not folded but flat with the fish, salsa, cabbage generously stacked on top of it. The bottom of the tortilla is lightly toasted to give it a crunch on one side. When eating, you fold it yourself. Delicious - one of the more unique and best tasting fish tacos I've had.

Many think that Coconut's Fish Cafe has the best fish taco on Maui. It’s certainly among the best, that’s for sure.

The food here has always been awesome as well as the service. Just love their fish tacos and they have so many fresh ingredients that you can taste and enjoy. Served on two separate plates it is perfect for yourself or sharing. We also love the coconut shrimp. Have yet to try anything else as we seem to not be able to veer from those two items. This place can get very crowded but now there are two on Maui so it should be better. By the way, the service is excellent and all the more so for being a not as fancy place and more casual in nature.

Coconut's Fish Cafe is a counter service restaurant, located across the street from the Kihei post office in the Azeka mauka-side shopping center. It's helpful to check out their menu online before going in, as this place gets very busy, very quickly and it helps speed up the process when you've got a faint idea of what you'd like to order. They usually serve 3 different kinds of fish, which you can have in a sandwich, in (a) taco(s), fried with chips, or as a plate lunch. Ahi, mahi-mahi, and Ono are always served.

There are several preparations for the fish (I personally like the Ono served with Asian-style seasoning), and while the portions are generous, no sides are served, so it's ala carte only (a basket of French fries is enough to share amongst 3+ people). Cole slaw comes automatically on the sandwiches, which is fresh and crunchy. Much tastier than plain old lettuce. Maui has a huge feral chicken population, and if you eat at one of the tables outside on the sidewalk, you can observe them and toss them some crumbs.

The tables are heavily lacquered with long benches, so be prepared to share your table if you have extra space and especially if it's peak meal time. You will be given a number on a stand to place on your table so that the food runner delivers correct order to you. All the napkins, forks, knives, condiments etc that you will need can grab from the station in the middle of the restaurant. The tables are completely bare; The staff is very good at keeping up with wiping off tables as they become available. The staff is friendly and efficient, and they're accustomed to fast-pace service ("turn and burn" is the industry slang). They are opening a second Kihei location next door to the old Denny's, where East Ocean Chinese restaurant used to be.

I ate here several years ago. It was the first time I had fish tacos. They were very good, many options to choose from. I have never been able to find another place like that anywhere else. I've had other fish tacos since then but none as good as theirs.

Love, love, love this place! Fantastic fish tacos, fish and chips, fish salads, fish over rice, and their french fries are addicting. I've taken people who do not like fish here, and they even love it. Don't miss out on this gem!

This is not a 5-star dining establishment, and they don't try to be. This is a nice, casual (read straight from the beach) place to grab a quick meal that is tasty and reasonably priced for Maui. I had the coconut shrimp, my husband had the Ono sandwich and my son's had shrimp and chips and chicken pasta. Everyone liked their raves, no complaints. We all ate for right about $50 which isn't bad for dinner for 4. The staff was friendly, quick to respond to requests and attentive. The restaurant was clean. There are a lot of places to try so we probably won't go back on this trip, but it would definitely make the list for a return trip to the island.

This is a popular place for sure and I can see why. It's just so good! Mahi Fish Sandwich was my order and I loved every last bite of it. Perfect flavor, perfect doneness, and just all around perfect even if a bit on the messy side.
