Kekaha Beach Park is a very large stretch of sand and has some decent amenities like a lifeguard, showers, tables, and grills. It has a lot of grassy area as well so it's a great place for a picnic.

Unfortunately, there is really no shade here aside from a few shaded pavilions. That means you're going to be in the hot sun and really need to apply plenty of sunscreen to Protect Yourself From Sunburn & Skin Cancer.

While the sandy area is large and great for playing on, the water isn't so great. There can be a dangerous shorebreak and strong currents here so don't go in unless the ocean is very calm and you've talked to the lifeguard first.

Even then, the water here isn't all that inviting. There are some areas where run-off channels empty into the ocean here which can lead to some less than clear water conditions and there is a water treatment facility right next door. It's never advised to swim in murky water since sharks tend to prefer murky waters (see Shark Attacks In Hawaii). That doesn't mean this is a sharky place, just a general rule of thumb.

This is very much a locals hangout and we've seen a few zipping up and down the sand in 4x4's (which looks like a ton of fun).
