Matt Anderson's Take
Salt Pond Beach Park is located in the Eleele area on the south shore of Kaua'i, right next to the small Port Allen Airport. The family friendly beach has two separate swimming areas.

One is very small and very protected from the ocean and the other is much larger but still somewhat protected from the ocean.

This is a good place for families and small children and the water is very clear.

This is a full featured beach park with lifeguards, large grassy area, bathrooms, sinks, water fountains, showers, grills, and picnic tables. It's hugely popular with locals on the weekends but there is plenty of parking even when it is crowded.

The local word here is that the mud on the west side is good for skin treatments and face masks. Rub it on, let it dry, and wash it off. Or so the story goes.

As for that name? Salt used to be, and still is, produced here. They pump in salt water and let the water evaporate until they're left with sea salt. Neat.

Great place for children because of a protected pond like area. Plenty of parking too.

I almost hate to rate this 5 stars because I font want everyone to flock there. Salt Pond is a great crescent shaped beach with great swimming/snorkeling. Weekdays it is often not crowded while weekends gets a blend of locals and tourists.

Good public facilities, quiet on a weekday with mostly locals. A bit "off the tourist track" as most tourists we met during our stay had never heard of it, even those staying nearby. On the day we went (in June), it was quite windy and as a result the water was definitely not calm and there was a swift current pulling. Snorkeling was poor as a result due to low visibility as the sand was quite churned up. Likely, the time of year, wind and weather conditions would play a role and can vary. We would try it again on another occasion.

A great campsite with lots of amenities. We stayed at Salt Pond for a few nights and really enjoyed it. The beach is lovely and good for swimming. Most of our fellow campers appeared to be locals, but it had a nice atmosphere and even though it was busy, there was plenty of space.

We met some friends here, we both have kids. Even though it was a cloudy day we still played in the shallow water and had fun! This is a great place for families with kids.

This was a nice beach, good swimming area and no rocks or coral to trip on. Well worth the visit and was very quiet when we were there. Definitely on our list for next visit.

A really nice beach park on Kauai with a safe lagoon to explore. Great beach for children. There are all the typical facilities of a Hawaiian beach park - restrooms, showers, picnic tables, a grassy area, etc.

Salt Pond Beach Park definitely a "locals" beach, so tourists should behave as if you're visiting a friend's house. Enjoy yourself, but remember you're visiting. So Bring a beach chair, umbrella, a mask and snorkel, a good book, and relax.

Salt Pond Beach Park isn't secluded and it can be crowded on weekends. Best time to visit is mid week to avoid crowds. Fortunately, there is plenty of parking. So if you're looking for that private getaway beach, head toward Hanalei side.
