Matt Anderson's Take
Anahola Beach Park overlooks Anahola Bay in the Anahola area on the east coast of Kaua'i. The beach has a classic crescent shape and a lot of facilities making it a popular beach with locals, but it's not as common with tourists.

The southeast end is the most popular side and has facilities like bathrooms, showers, picnic tables, and a lifeguard. Camping is also allowed here with a permit.

The southeast side offers more protection from waves and is better for children due to an offshore reef. Parking here is easy to find, just head to the pinpoint on our map / directions page.

The northwest end will be far less crowded and is popular with boogie boarders and surfers (surfing is only allowed at this end). The Anahola River empties into the ocean on this side which can lead to murky water and we never recommend swimming in murky water (see Shark Attacks In Hawaii). Parking over on this side can be done right off of Aliomanu Road where it parallels the river and ocean.

Very nice beach and best during the week when it's not too crowded. Good facilities, like a lifeguard, make this a good family beach option when the ocean is calm.

Absolutely loved my time here, as well as, all other parts above & below this area. Would trade a single moment spent here.

We went out of our way to find this beach our last trip to Kauai and loved it. We like to find places where the locals hang out because we figure they know better than us!! We were not disappointed. The beach was beautiful and there was a lot of prime shelling to be done here. Since I love to collect shells from different places I visit it was a wonderful surprise. We went on a weekday and it was very quite. Next time I would love to snorkel there. Anahola see you in November!

As far as a beach park goes, I like what Anahola could be. The beach is a somewhat narrow expanse along a semi-protected shoreline. The surf doesn't get too big here, but it's ok for a little boogie boarding. However, there is a lot of partying going on here, and it all seems a little sketchy. Trash cans filled with beer bottles, a lot of beat up cars, and substanced guys hanging out in their cars. However, there are restrooms, volleyball areas, a nice beach and plenty of parking. This beach could be better rated if it was cleaned up a bit and more friendly. It takes a certain type of tourist to enjoy this beach park. Just not me.
