Matt Anderson's Take
Moloa'a Bay is an amazing beach located in the Kilauea area on the northeast side of Kaua'i. On a calm day, it's a good place to swim and relax with the southeast side of the beach being the best.

Moloa'a Beach offers a classic crescent shape, hidden feel (even if it's not hidden), and clear blue waters that make this an excellent all around beach. It can be a little rocky and reefy in spots but that doesn't take anything away from this place.

There are plenty of trees for shade but no facilities here so use a bathroom before you come here. Also, you won't find any lifeguards here so any swimming you do is at your own risk.

Moloa'a Bay isn't a secret beach and can be very popular with locals so you'll want to get here early in the day and ideally on a weekday because the parking situation is pretty bad here. Follow Moloaa Road to the end and you'll find a few spots but if those are taken back track a bit and park along the street where possible (and where allowed).

Even if you have to walk a bit, it will be well worth it. Just be sure to park only where you are legally allowed to and be respectful of the locals who live around here.

Easily one of the more amazing Kauai beaches. Feels hidden and secret and you may even have it all to yourself at times. Everything about this place feels special. One of my favorite Hawaii beaches.

Somewhat difficult to find, but worth it on weekdays. I've never seen more than a dozen people on the beach during several visits. We tend to only visit in September, when the crowds have thinned, so maybe that's why it's never been crowded? Parking is extremely limited, so arrive early. Swimming can be good in calm weather, somewhat choppy other times.

If you like to hike, there is a trail that follows the shoreline with nice ocean views. There are no facilities of any kind here, so carry (in and out) whatever you may need. They claim the small inlet is where the original opening scene from Gilligan's Island was filmed (black and white version), whether true or not, it's still a beautiful spot!

Moloa'a Bay was my first Hawaii beach experience. I loved the calm waters and the serene little horseshoe shaped bay. I enjoyed hiking the trail that meanders up and over the grassy hillside to the left of the bay. My husband and I spent our first three nights in Kauai in a beautiful rental home on Moloa'a Bay. I kept singing Gilligan's Island theme song (couldn't help myself) while enjoying the light pink sand and the gentle surf!

Moloaa bay was one of my favorite beaches to visit when on Kauai. The day we went, there was very few people on the beach and it was very beautiful. I enjoy shelling and found some nice shells here. This is the beach where the pilot for Gilligan Island was filmed.
