About Mauna Kea Beach Hotel
Mauna Kea Beach Hotel is a luxury resort upholding a timeless tradition of aloha since it was created by Laurance S. Rockefeller in 1965 as the first resort on Hawaii Island. For decades, generations of honeymooners, families, and friends, have enjoyed the award-winning mid-century modern architecture along with championship golf, tennis, and the centerpiece of Mauna Kea, the beautiful beach at Kauna’oa Bay.
Matt Anderson's Take
The Mauna Kea Beach Hotel is located right on Mauna Kea Beach / Kauna'oa Bay so you're just steps away from a little sand and relaxation at all times. This resort offers 252 guestrooms and suites.

Wireless Internet is offered for a fee. Supervised childcare / activities are available as well. The restaurant claims there are no mandatory resort fees but you'll pay for individual extras like parking and Internet access.

There are several onsite dining options at the Mauna Kea Beach hotel. Manta & Pavilion Wine Bar is a higher end dining option with a price tag to match and is open for breakfast and dinner. Number 3 serves lunch at the Mauna Kea Clubhouse and offers various burgers and sandwiches in a casual atmosphere.

Hau Tree serves lunch and dinner right by the beach. They have a variety of salads and sandwiches for lunch with more upscale entrees for dinner. Kauna'oa Bar & Grill overlooks Kauna'oa Bay and is a casual dining option that serves hot dogs, pizzas, and more for dinner.

Other options include their Sunday Brunch Buffet with a variety of breakfast and lunch items. A luau is put on twice weekly with plenty of music, performances, and food. If you happen to be around for a Saturday dinner then you may want to check out the Clam Bake which offers a large seafood buffet featuring Keahole Maine lobster, shrimp, sashimi, crab claws, oysters, mussels, clams, prime rib, and a dessert bar.

When you're ready to burn some calories check out the 2,500 square-foot fitness center with 43 Life Fitness exercise machines. Golf fans will enjoy the newly renovated 18-hole championship Mauna Kea Resort Golf Course.

Learn about the Hawaiian culture through lei-making, hula, crafting classes, music, luau and other classes or head to the Mauna Kea Spa by Mandara for soothing therapies and body treatments.
