Stewarts Burgers - Restaurants On Maui Kihei, Hawaii

I had high hopes for Stewart's because it looked clean, the menu was decent, prices were pretty fair, and then I heard a local guy pop his head in the ordering window and say "Hey Stewart, howzit!". Meaning, Stewart himself was manning the burger grill.

Who is Stewart exactly? I have no idea, but it made me assume that if a restaurant is named "Stewart's" and there is a guy named Stewart at the grill then the owner is likely cooking my food and thus wants to do his best so I have a reason to return.

A while later my Kihei burger and frings were ready. Need me to translate? A Kihei burger is a cheeseburger with onion rings, bacon, and BBQ sauce. Yea, it's a western burger, a BBQ burger, nothing really unique, yet it has to have a tacky touristy Maui named tacked on (how original). As for frings, well, that's half fries and half onion rings.

Touristy names aside, the service here is fine and a specialty burger like my Kihei runs around $9 or so. The rings were around $5. Both were fine but neither was really anything special. A pretty average burger with pretty average fries and rings, nothing more.

I wouldn't mind eating here again if I wanted a burger, didn't want to spend much, and was right here, but otherwise I know I can do better. The burger just lacked flavor and I felt if the bacon and BBQ sauce weren't there it would have been sub-par.

My only actual complaint with this place is the crazy amount of flies all over. It's outdoor seating only (right next to the road no less) but they have an odd fly problem. I realize this is the outdoors but there are ways to control fly issues because it's annoying to have to swat flies away while you quickly chow down your food so you can get out of there fast. If you do eat here, get it to go.
