Good food, but not great. Good service, but not great. Really expensive overall without great food and service? You can do better.

Lahaina Fish Co is located right on Front Street and right on the ocean. In fact, it sort of hangs over the ocean so you can get some pretty amazing ocean views here.

We got a table upstairs at the back end of the building (south east end) and had a great view of the dilapidated buildings next door (one of which included a barking dog). Some people think this is part of the charm of this small town in Lahaina but I don't see that appeal. To be fair, looking beyond the buildings there is a great ocean view.

None of that actually bothered me, but there was a pretty rank smell that kept wafting up from the ocean below from time to time that did bother me. Is the restaurant responsible for an ocean odor? Maybe, maybe not. Hard to say what the smell is and various parts around here have a stinky sewer smell to them which is likely what I was smelling. Regardless of who is to blame, it's one of the things I don't like about this area in general and smelling it while eating can be gross at times.

Service here was pretty good overall but nothing above average. I ordered the grilled rib eye steak which was a fair size for it's high $31.95 price. It came with some mashed potatoes as well. It was good, but I expected quite a bit more from this place and for this price. Just slightly above average really because it just wasn't very flavorful.

The chocolate mousse for dessert was excellent and something I highly recommend. Dinner for two here was $104 for two people with a coke, a beer, one dessert, with tax and tip. Good food, but not great. Good service, but not great. Really expensive overall without great food and service? You can do better.

At one point, somebody (a chef, manager, not sure) came out with a 30 pound fish to show guests in the restaurant. That was pretty neat, though it somehow lost it's magic once I visited their YouTube page only to see a video of this act. Meaning, they must do this little trick nightly so it just somehow felt a little less special once I realized that.
