Features
Punalau Beach is located off the Honoapiilani Highway along the north shore of west Maui, see our directions / map page for exact location. There will be parking in a small pull out area along the makai (ocean) side of the road.
You'll then find a dirt path that leads down to the ocean. Some people do drive down the path but unless you have four wheel drive (and even then) we suggest parking at the top and walking down. It's a short hike along a dirt trail.
There is a sandy beach here but it has a rocky shoreline so it's nothing above average really. If you want above average then checkout the lookout spots right off the Hana Highway that are located at the far ends of the beach (both before and after the beach parking pull out area).
Head to those and snap some pictures but be very careful of traffic all along the road in this area.
