Full Description
The Ambassador Hotel Waikiki in Waikiki Beach is a good size (298 rooms) budget property but in addition to low room rates they also have larger than usual room sizes, at least for Waikiki. Their standard room is 470 sq ft, which is pretty big compared to many budget (and even many luxury boutique) rooms that may be closer to 300 sq ft.

They do offer a pool here and you will get some amenities in your room like a safe, mini fridge, and even free Internet (wired connection, not wifi), but don't expect too much beyond that here.

As for location, you are in Waikiki but this hotel is not on the beach. You are in line with Fort DeRussy Beach Park @ Waikiki but several blocks inland from it, less than a block away from the Ala Wai Canal. That means that getting to the beach requires walking a few blocks and getting to most restaurants and shops does as well.

I guess I really shouldn't be rating this hotel since I was never able to actually stay in a room. However, I did pay for a room, and stayed at their sister property on the same night they claim I booked a night here. The WORST customer service I have ever received in my entire life. First of all as I mentioned, I was told I was staying at their sister property the night before (which turned out to be the same night). Now, I am not sure why someone would make this up, seeing as though this is not a very up-scale (even from the curb-appeal) hotel, but I was told this by two different employees at their sister property because I specifically asked for a place with the customer service I had received at this property because I had enjoyed myself so much, and they told me on two different occasions it was the Ambassador Hotel.

So, I get to the Ambassador, and they claim that I do not have a reservation there, although my credit card was charged for a night at "The Ambassador", and I was never actually able to stay there. They didn't give me refund and they actually denied that they were sister properties with anyone else. Obviously, something was not adding up. The bottom line is The Ambassador received money from me for a night's stay and I never stayed a night there. The sister property also received money from me as well. The bottom line is that I payed to stay here, and never got to stay here even though I paid in advance. I have no idea why one hotel, which was much nicer would claim this is their sister property, if indeed it is not. They didn't offer a refund, or anything in it's place. Truly the worst experience I have had ever in Waikiki.

The consensus here is pretty good. Most would agree that the staff are friendly and helpful. Most consider the location to be good considering the price.

At the same time, everyone seems to agree that it is a budget hotel and that can mean and older and outdated room experience. Some have complained that it wasn't the cleanest place as well.

Just like anywhere else, in Hawaii you get what you pay for.
