We decided to try Hula Grill when we were there and were quite happy with our decision. Wait time was not too bad for a table since we decided last minute to eat here they accommodated us really well. The food was great, came within time limits, and the service was on spot. Our waitress was very helpful in helping us decide on dishes we might like.

As we were also having a hard time deciding on dessert she was right on spot with what she recommended we try. The drinks were the really good. Prices were what you would expect for a nice place like this. If you are wanting a nice place to eat or for a special day this is a must try.

One of our favorite meals on our latest trip to Maui! No problem getting a same day reservation for dinner but we did have to settle for 1/2 hour later than our preferred time, which wasn't an issue for us, though it might be for those with less flexible schedules. It seems this place does get busy so call ahead if you want to eat in the main dining room. The barefoot beachside restaurant attached is first come, first seated and does not require reservations but seemed packed on a weeknight.

Service was excellent, friendly, helpful, professional, and attentive. The open air dining room is reminiscent of a plantation home, casual, lively, bright, and with a partial view of the beach. Hubby and I split a Localicious Salad (Waipoli greens, tomatoes, poehole fern, marinated heart of palm, Maui onion with a lime ginger miso dressing )and a Kama'aina Kale Salad with spiced organic Macadamia nuts, Surfing goat cheese, Maui onions and roasted beets with a Maui honey vinaigrette). Both were delicious!

Our entrees were Crab topped macadamia nut-crusted fish (mahi mahi that day) with coconut sesame rice and Maui gold pineapple beurre blanc, and Cantonese lamb chops served with kiawe wood-grilled chilled forbidden rice and house made sriracha sauce. OMG! I am a foodie at heart, well traveled across Asia, Europe, Polynesia and the Caribbean, and I cook quite a bit with my cooking influenced by my travels. And I have to say, these two dishes were phenomenal! Perfectly balanced, with a complex depth of flavor and perfectly seasoned. Both very different dishes and each outstanding in their execution. Kids both had fish and chips which featured a generous filet of fresh fish, lightly battered and fried and hand cut potatoes.

Dessert for us was the flourless chocolate cake served with Kona espresso ice cream and a Maui vanilla crème anglaise (a little rich for me but it was a hit with my daughter) and the Baked Hawaii, which was a pineapple upside-down cake served with Tahitian vanilla ice cream, toasted meringue and a caramel rum sauce. The latter reminded me of a sticky toffee pudding but in a tropical version which made it just divine! All in all, a wonderful dinner experience at Hula grill. Prices are what we expected for an upscale casual meal in Hawaii- somewhat higher than prices on the mainland but in keeping with other restaurants of similar quality on island. Not something we could do every day on a budget, but worth an occasional splurge for us. We would definitely patronize this place again!
