Matt Anderson's Take
A nice boutique hotel located at the far south end of Waikiki beach (far end of Kaimana / Sans Souci Beach @ Waikiki). It's location means you'll get more peace and quiet but all of the restaurants, bars, and shops of Waikiki will be at least a short walk away (or long walk to get to the other end).

It is located very near Kaimana / Sans Souci Beach @ Waikiki but it's not actually on the beach. There is another tall hotel between the Lotus and the beach which means a very short walk through a parking lot or a slightly longer walk to Waikiki Beach (Main / Center).

This hotel is nicely updated (lobby and rooms) and is a great option for those who want to avoid the crazy-town that is Waikiki but it also lacks amenities (no pool, no restaurants, no bar, etc). Good for couples, maybe not so much for families with kids.

It should be noted that they do include some nice amenities like beach towels and chairs, bicycles, morning coffee and tea service, yoga classes in the park (across the street at Kapiolani Beach Park @ Waikiki), and an evening wine service.

They also allow dogs here (fee required) which is good for some, bad for others. Maybe really bad if you have severe dog allergies. Seems like an odd thing for a hotel to allow, especially in Hawaii where dogs that fly here get quarantined anyhow. Odd, but there you have it.

The Lotus is a fun little boutique hotel with an amazing staff that really makes you feel welcome. I don't think this is a place for kids really. I mean I'm sure they are welcome to stay here too but it's more of an adult hotel. In fact, I don't think I ever saw a kid here during our stay.

The hotel is nice inside and the rooms are nice as well, very clean which I love. It's true that you won't be right on the beach but it's literally a 2 minute walk away. Basically, there's just another hotel or condo building in front of this one that you walk around so no big deal.

What I like about this location is that you're at the far end of Waikiki so it's so much quieter down here. So much more relaxed and less insane. Of course, if you want to walk to go eat that does mean having to walk several blocks to get into the main part of Waikiki but it's not really a big deal at all.

Pros:
+ The staff here gets rave reviews. I've read less than great reviews about the hotel but the staff is always highly rated. Kudos.
+ Good location for peace and quiet.
+ Very close to beach even if not right on the beach.
+ Some great Diamond Head views.
+ Good option for 40-and-over-without-kids crowd.

Cons:
- No pool area.
- Not right on the beach.
- Lacks food options (continental breakfast is available).
- Need two beds? They'll be two doubles, not queens.
- Ocean views may be blocked by hotel behind Lotus.
- Not ideal for families with kids.
