Great staff and service. Some food items were really good while others were bland. Kids meals are priced well, adult entrees are a little pricey. Horrible parking.

Los Garcias is a classic Mexican style restaurant located in Kailua at the corner of Oneawa St and Kuulei Rd. That makes it pretty easy to find but once there you'll wonder where the parking lot is. As far as we can tell, they actually have no parking lot what-so-ever here.
We heard that some people park down at the Walgreens which is further northwest on Oneawa St but their lot has signs that warn you can only use their lot if you are going to Walgreens and even then for 30 minutes. Not wanting to risk a tow we drove around a bit and finally found a lot across Oneawa St from Los Garcias in a small strip mall. The downside there is that you have to cross Oneawa St via the cross walk with no stop light or walk further out of your way to use the light.
Once seated we found that the service was very good and they were very quick and friendly throughout our meal.
We ordered some kids meals (enchilada plate and a grilled cheese) which are nicely priced at about $5.00 each. We also ordered a chimichanga plate for close to $14.00 and a combination plate (taco, burrito, enchilada) which was also close to $14.00.
The combination plate was pretty good, better than average overall with really tasty rice and beans. The enchilada was very good, as was the burrito but it was tiny. The taco, which had the same shredded beef as the other items, was very bland and tasted like nothing at all. The other items had red sauce or beans to add flavor so the shredded beef by itself has very little taste.
The chimichanga was covered in a pile of lettuce (fresh and crisp to be fair) so it seemed a bit small for the price and didn't have enough red sauce on it and so it too was a little on the bland side.
The building itself is really old and while it feels like they're cleaning it close to as good as a place like this can be cleaned, it just feels a little old, run down, and dirty. Hard to describe that but it's a level of dirty due to age rather than lack of trying. Either way, not a super pleasant atmosphere so eating outside might be a good option even if you're eating next to traffic.
Pros:
+ Some bland items, but better than average overall
+ Fair kids menu prices
+ Great service, friendly staff
Cons:
- Place feels old an dirty
- Parking situation is as bad as it gets
- Pricey adult entrees
- Bland shredded beef
Overall, if we were in this area and wanted Mexican food we wouldn't mind eating here again. But considering the parking situation, prices, and bland food we certainly wouldn't go out of our way to eat here again. For a family of four we spent $60 (with tip) and could have had much better Mexican food for a cheaper price at many other locations. Los Garcias is just average overall.
