Island Lava Java Bistro Grill - Restaurants On Big Island Kailua-Kona, Hawaii

Island Lava Java serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Their menu features grass fed Big Island beef, free range Big Island chicken, Big Island organic goat cheese and locally grown organic produce. I had a hard time deciding what to order because there were so many yummy dishes to choose from. I ended up ordering the Kohala Dragon Salad and my friend ordered Nicoise Salad.

Kohala Dragon Salad had 4 large prawns rolled in dried coconut and deep fried on the sweet and spicy dragon-fire sauce. It had organic island greens, cabbage, carrot, onion, roasted red bell peppers with citrus sesame vinaigrette which had a bite to it. It was filling and delicious.

Nicose Salad came with very fresh seared ahi, organic mixed greens, red onions, olives, green beans, tomatoes, fingerling potatoes and hard boiled egg. It was also very tasty.

The location was awesome. It's right across the ocean so we had a great view of the sunset. We happened to be on the Big Island when the Ironman competition was taking place. We had a fantastic view of the athletes as they ran by us. We cheered them on while sitting at our table having a delicious dinner.

The food was excellent but the experience of watching the Ironman competition while dining brought it over the top to 5 stars.
