A fully nude beach. Not the good kind.

NOTE: This is a fully nude beach, not a place to take the kids and family. However, if you're looking for a nude beach in Hawaii then this is your lucky day because this is a clothing optional beach. In fact, it's really more of a clothing must be off beach or else you're sure to be outed as a peeper.

Head towards that small hill / mountain.

To get here, you'll actually turn off into the first parking lot (as you head south) for Big Beach (Oneloa/Makena Beach) at Makena State Park and park in there. Then walk out to the beach, which will be the far north end of Big Beach (Oneloa/Makena Beach) at Makena State Park.

Follow the path up...

Once on the sand, turn right to head north towards the rocks / cliff at the far north end. As you get closer you'll see a very obvious natural rock path and steps that lead up. It's fairly easy to climb up and not as bad as it looks but go slow because a slip here could be bad.

...then back down.

Once up, just follow the path to the right which will head right back down to Little Beach which will be very obvious and likely full of naked bodies. On weekends it will be downright packed full of nudity.


If that sounds appealing to you, you need to realize the type of people and type of bodies that visit nude beaches like this. This isn't going to be a land of nude super models prancing around in the sand. The Swedish Bikini Team does not frequent this beach. Quite the opposite really. It tends to be more of an older crowd here and I personally couldn't help notice the amount of overly tan and leathery looking bodies with lots of sagging bits of everything flopping around all over the place. The ratio of men to woman is also way off with far too much man sausage. Too graphic for you? Then avoid this beach.


Not trying to be harsh, and I'm no prude, but that's just what I saw everywhere I looked. And, yes, I looked everywhere. I do this for you, the reader. I have seen things that cannot be unseen. Images that will forever be burned into my retinas.


It's not a family beach by any means and there were a minority of people who weren't nude but I still wouldn't recommend it. It's not even worth the novelty of going just to see it, it's really not. And forget about pictures because while we did snap a few from far away for purposes of documenting the beach (and then blurred them as needed) you will have an angry mob on your hands if you start shooting pictures down on the beach. There is nothing legally stopping you from taking pictures here, more of an unwritten rule I guess, but do you really want a bunch of old sweaty bodies chasing you down for your camera? Trust me, you don't.


As for the beach itself, it's okay but pretty much the same as Big Beach (Oneloa/Makena Beach) at Makena State Park, only way smaller, so why take the extra hike? Remove the nude factor and it's probably a 4 star beach. The only reason to go here is if you are a nudist of course. And I won't even pretend to understand that world. For everyone else, stop complaining about how sand gets EVERYWHERE because clearly it can be much worse if you're a nudist. If you do go, you'll want to bring extra sunscreen to really Protect Yourself From Sunburn & Skin Cancer.
