Ho'okipa Beach Park, which includes Ho'okipa Lookout, is one of the top places for windsurfing on the entire planet, with many who will argue that it's the best place overall (or at least in the USA). This isn't for novice windsurfers, but a place where the pros come to play and compete.

To get to Ho'okipa Beach, which is located in the town of Paia on the northshore of Maui, follow the Hana Highway (36) to mile marker 9 and you'll see it because there's really nothing else here. Because it's a one way in and one way out parking situation, you'll actually drive to the far east end of the beach area where you can turn in. Our map / directions page will get you here with GPS precision.

There is an upper gravel lot where you can park if you want a great vantage point to take pictures or watch the windsurfers do their thing, this area is called Ho'okipa Lookout. There is plenty of parking up here.

There is a second parking area if you follow the one way road west which will take you down to sea level. There is a ton of parking down there as well, but it's pretty much always crowded so finding a spot isn't always easy.

While windsurfing is king here, you'll also find plenty of regular surfing going on as well as well a lot of stand up paddle boarders in the water.

The shoreline is full of reef so it's not really a beach where you'd come to swim or play, it's really all about the surfing and windsurfing here.
