I love Sushi Yuzu. I wish I could eat there everyday, but I couldn't afford it. The food is remarkably fresh and tasty. It's prepared using unconventional ingredients that put a modern spin on traditional Japanese food. For instance, they make their own sushi vinegar with yuzu juice, Hawaiian salt and organic cane sugar. Yuzu is a citrus fruit that has a subtle tart flavor. Think of a grapefruit combined with a mandarin orange. It has a memorable flavor and is quite refreshing to the taste.

One of my favorite dishes at Yuzu is the Grilled Squid appetizer. This dish is served with the WHOLE squid - from head to tentacles. It's cooked to perfection so it's very tender. The tentacles have all the flavors so my husband and I fight for them. With a dab of homemade wasabi vegenaise, it's heavenly.

My go-to meal is Omakase (chef's choice) Japan. It's served on a huge platter with fresh nigiri sushi. This is for the more adventurous souls. Along with the typical sushi fares like hamachi, salmon and scallop , it comes with ikura (salmon roe), raw squid, and my favorite uni (sea urchin eggs). Fresh uni tastes like it's from the ocean, if you know what I mean. When it's not fresh, it smells like sewer. That's why I always ask if the uni is fresh before ordering. At Sushi Yuzu, I never need to ask since all their food is fresh. Quality like that does not come cheap, but it's worth it.

For those less adventuresome, the Omakase Hawaii comes with a Ko Olina roll, a 4 piece tempura and yuzu ahi roll, and a two piece seafood dynamite roll. You can't go wrong – its all incredibly delicious.

Both Omakase meals come with homemade miso soup with fresh vegetables, organic tofu, local vegetables, edamame and ahi poke.

For dessert, I had the mango shave ice which is not really an authentic Hawaiian shave ice. It's more like mango ice cream. The pineapple coconut ice cream is okay but the yuzu sorbet is outstanding. It's very refreshing after eating sushi and cleanses the palate very nicely.

The service is great, there is valet parking, and the restaurant has a classy Modern Hawaiian environment. Very pleasant.

I give Sushi Yuzu 5 stars for serving consistently excellent meals and creating a dining experience well worth the money.
