Matt Anderson's Take
You'll find this little gem in the North Shore Marketplace shopping mall which is located in the north shore town of Haleiwa.

It's a small little restaurant with a few tables inside and a few outside and they're only open for breakfast and lunch.

We went for lunch and ordered up some Old School Pig Sandwiches which are Kalua pig, guava bbq sauce, Hawaiian slaw, and caramelized onions all on a toasted french roll and served with Maui style chips for $9.00. The fresh squeezed lemonade ($3.25) is tasty but a bit pricey for the size; the same can be said for the yummy but small milkshakes ($6).

The sandwich was delicious. Period. The guava bbq sauce and the perfectly cooked and shredded pork are amazingly good and tender. The price for the sandwich with chips isn't too bad but the sandwich is a tiny bit on the small side if you're really hungry. That's a minor complaint but it just was too small so I have to take half a star off for that.

On our last visit they upsold me on adding avocado on my sandwich. Sounded like a good idea but they forgot to put it on. It was only after I left and saw the receipt that I paid for it but never got it so that's pretty annoying. Better quality control would be nice.

Anyhow, I see the light now and have been converted into the religion that is Kono's, even if I'm not ready to get a pig tattooed on my body or even buy any of the pig themed merchandise they'd love to sell you.

This cute and laidback café serves up some great food until 2.30 pm. Whilst in Haleiwa, I had breakfast and lunch and both were excellent. The breakfast burrito was a substantial feast and set me up for the rest of the day (I didn't have breakfast and lunch there on the same day - that would have been extremely greedy!)

The BBQ pork sandwich was absolutely delicious, as was the accompanying milkshake. My partner had the veggie bomber and was as equally impressed. You place your order at the bar and then sit either inside or out. Highly recommended.

Yum, yum, yum! Kono's is a must for anyone on the North Shore. I almost don't want to write a review, because I don't want it to be too packed when I head out for my weekly Kono's fix. Seriously... everything on the menu is amazing... as long as you get pork. I've honestly never tried anything else from there. And the milkshakes... to die for! And if you get a tattoo of the pig, you get 25% off for life... tempting :-) Make sure you get the avocado sauce and the chipotle ketchup with whatever meal you get!

Their sandwiches were to die for the pulled pork sandwich was the best and I love the way they give you the Maui chips as a side. The lemonade was refreshing and beautiful the service was fast and friendly and the prices were standard. Will definitely go back there food was amazing. Go check it out.

Loved the Old School Pig Sandwich. The pulled pork was succulent, moist but not greasy. The bread was freshly made and soft. Restaurant is small with a healthy following. We saw several people rushing in to grab a sandwich before they closed.

Also ordered a salad with pulled pork on it, but it really can't compete with the Old School Pig Sandwich. I mean, afterall - you came to a place that serves delicious pig meat sandwiches. Save the salad for when you get home and back on your diet.

Kono's Old School Pig Sandwich is so delicious! The flavor combination of kalua pig, guava bbq sauce, hawaiian slaw, caramelized onions is heaven.

The Biscuits and Gravy Plate is good but not great. The gravy could have used a little more seasoning. The bacon was average and the eggs had no seasoning at all. I was hoping for a better breakfast, maybe I will try the Banana Macadamia Waffle next time.
