Hinone Mizunone serves many teishoku meals. Teishoku means "meal set" and it generally comes with a main dish, a bowl of rice, miso soup and tsukemono (pickled vegetables). They have typical Japanese menu items such as broiled salmon, mackerel, fried chicken, curry, butterfish misoyaki. They also have daily specials.

I have tried a lot of dishes on the menu and most of them are average. But I love their shrimp tempura udon. I think it's the best on the island. I leave happiest when I eat it.

It comes with 2 shrimp tempura on a separate plate so they don't get all soggy and makes the soup greasy. I like to put one shrimp tempura at a time in the soup and eat it before the fried batter soaks up too much soup and falls apart. I like my soup spicy so I add shichimi (flavored chili powder) to the soup. I'm very particular about noodles. I like mine al dente and not overcooked. They cook their noodles perfectly with little bit of chewiness. The soup is very flavorful and not salty. When we were in Kyoto, our guide took us to a restaurant that was supposed to be the best udon restaurant in Kyoto. And it was excellent. The udon at Hinone Mizunone comes pretty close to that so I'm happy I can get great udon in Hawaii.

The parking lot is small so when you go there during peak meal hours, you will have to park on the street.

I give 4.5 stars for the udon but I'm giving the restaurant 3.5 stars because most of their dishes are little over average.
