Papa'iloa Beach, or Police Beach as it's often called, is located in Haleiwa on the north shore of O'ahu. This is another great beach that is hidden away behind houses with wall to wall fences and gates so you'd never know anything good was back here, much less how to access it.

Fortunately for you, we'll explain exactly how to get here! From the Kamehameha Highway, you can turn toward the ocean onto Papailoa Road (see our map / directions page) and then head down this dead end street. Close to the end and you'll find a blue public beach access sign about four houses before the end.

You'll also find a little dirt parking area on the opposite side of the street by this same sign and a bit more parking a little further down the road towards the dead end.

Walk the short access path and you'll be greeted by an excellent beach that's quite long and wide. When the ocean is fairly calm the waves here won't be bad but aren't as calm as other nearby beaches. If the ocean is angry you should stay away of course.

There are plenty of great spots where you can set up your towel or chair and enjoy the peace and quiet of it all or hit the water to play and splash. The swimming here isn't very good though, especially in the winter when the waves are big. This is a popular turtle spot as well and the handmade signs here will remind you not to touch them.

Note that there are no facilities at this beach. Fans of the TV show Lost might recognize this beach from some of the episodes where it was one of the main camp areas of the plane "survivors".
