About Dole Plantation
At the original site of James Dole’s pineapple plantation, guests can trek through the World’s Largest Maze (as recognized by Guinness World Records), take a scenic ride on the Pineapple Express train, or stroll through the Plantation Garden Tour. The visitor center features a huge assortment of pineapple-themed gifts and goodies. At the top of the “must have” list is Dole Plantation’s world-famous Dole Whip® soft-serve ice cream.
Full Description
Make no mistake about it, the Dole Plantation caters to tourists. But it can still be fun and is might worth an hour or two of your time to check out.

It has one of the world's largest mazes where you will (for a small fee) walk around trying to find various stations that let you trace a design onto a card. The idea is that you run through the hedges to find all of the designs and then your way out in the least amount of time possible. Kids will likely enjoy this but note that it can get really hot out there so consider doing it first thing in the morning if it's going to be hot out.

After the maze you can go take a ride on their train which will give you a tour through the pineapple fields. There are also various pineapple based photo opportunities to be had on the property as well.

Inside the main building you will find a huge gift shop with all sorts of shirts, jewelry, food and candy, and other various souvenirs. Basically, if the product has anything to do with a pineapple you'll likely find it here. Moving on you will find a counter service restaurant and some dessert options like the famous Dole Whip. All things considered, the Dole Whip is actually a great deal (under $5.00) and gives you a lot of very tasty pineapple flavored sorbet. It's a must try treat!

I have been here a handful of times since moving to the island. The whip is to die for! This place is very clean, great for kids, as they have train rides through the plantation!

This place originally started out as a fruit stand in 1950. Today it's become a significant attraction on Oahu. Over a million visitors per year! They offer what they call a "Pineapple Experience," where you can learn about the growing and harvesting of the favorite fruit. Fun for the kids with the giant maze, and an enjoyable enough stop to grab a pineapple whip. Has a bit of a theme park feel. It's not Disneyland, but a pleasant diversion in the country.

However - regarding the "Dole Whip". I waited in line for 15 minutes to purchase one. I don't get it. I was hoping for a real, pineapple tasting, refreshing treat. It was disappointing, and I only ate half of it. It tasted like something you would buy from 7-Eleven.

I had never been here until I moved to the island. I just figured it was always filled with tourists... and you can buy Pineapples anywhere. But I finally caved and decided to see what the hype was about. It's actually a pretty cool place. I would recommend doing the maze and even the train ride. And you can't leave without trying the pineapple ice cream... its amazing!!!!

Great spot for everything pineappley or a pineapple plantation tour. See workers whack and throw pineapples into bins, learn about Hawaiian plants. And the pineapple ice cream is to die for. Very few pineapple plantations left in Hawaii, now. Enjoy your visit as there are many truly Hawaiian souvenirs here.

The Dole Plantation is one of those stops that you must visit if you are visiting the island of Oahu. There are different fun things to do and see there including the Dole express train and the tour of the pineapple fields. The tour is very informative and I loved hearing the history of pineapple as well as seeing how they harvest and replant the fruit. After touring the grounds there is nothing better that a large Dole Whip. I still dream of that Dole Whip to this day. This is a great place for the young and the young at heart.

See first hand how pineapples grow, enjoy a delicious bowl of pineapple ice cream, ride the train and shop for souvenirs. It is worth the drive from Honolulu.

What a unique experience! Very educational. Quite a large site. The train ride was informative and the market place was nice. The food left a lot to be desired and the lines for food were honestly unreasonable. The location was easy to find and parking was good. The prices were very high and they tried to hit you up with "souvenirs" at every single turn. All in all this was a good experience. Very educational for our 3 small kids. Would return on future vacations

My sister and I had a very fun time at the Dole Plantation. We took the train ride and learned a lot about pineapples and the Dole industry. And of course, we bought a bunch of souvenirs from their gift shop - which was huge, by the way! The pineapples we tasted were so fresh and that's how they should be! It was a great experience. The perfect stop on your way to the North Shore.

If you have kids it can be a fun experience doing the maze with them, they're sure to love it. The train ride can also be fun but some kids will get bored with that. Dole Whips are something your whole family will likely enjoy so at least try one. Seriously, I'd actually make the trip to Dole just for a Whip. They're big so you can split it among several people easily.

In the gift shop, they'll try to suck you into buying a pearl-in-an-oyster for a cheap enough price, but then gouge you on a ring or necklace to set it in. Avoid it. You'll find all sorts of clothing options along with tons of candy, food, and drink souvenirs. It is fun to buy some of the various foods and candies to enjoy on your trip and maybe even a souvenir t-shirt for the kids.

It's a shame they don't do more with this property and expand their offerings a bit more though you can have a good time here at a decent enough cost as long as you don't get too sucked in. Just remember, this isn't Disneyland.
